Raised in Upstate SC, Jonathan developed a strong appreciation for the natural beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains as gleaned from scouts, rock hounding, climbing, mountain biking, and kayaking. While receiving a BA in Geology and studying abroad in Germany with Appalachian State University, Jonathan developed a passion for hydrogeology, sustainable development, and problem solving.
After starting his environmental consulting career in 2006 with HSMM-AECOM in Roanoke, VA, Jonathan attended grad school for a Master's in hydrogeology at Virginia Tech ('08-'10). Upon graduation, Jonathan and his wife served as Peace Corps Volunteers in Morocco. In 2012, Jonathan moved to Portland, OR where he traveled the world as a hydrogeologist for Golder Associates. In 2015, Jonathan moved his young family back to the Carolinas to work as a branch manager for a small firm in Upstate SC. With good mentorship and a strong entrepreneurial spirit, Jonathan began his own consulting firm, Peak Hydrogeologic, PLLC in Tryon, NC in 2016.
Jonathan loves working in private practice as a NC/SC-licensed Professional Geologist, and providing his clients with value that exceeds cost while protecting human health, the environment, and their investment. In addition to dedicating his education and professional career to hydrogeology, Jonathan's obsession with rocks and water spills into his personal life, and he can often be found with his wife (Alex) and two sons (Theis and Karst) outside rock-climbing and kayaking. Jonathan also enjoys community service through active volunteer roles as the AEG Carolinas Vice Chair, a Land Stewardship committee member for Conserving Carolina, and the Carolina Climber's Coalition Crag Steward for the Town of Tryon's Melrose Mtn. Climbing Park.
Since establishment of Peak Hydrogeologic in 2016, Jonathan has continued to grow the business by sustaining several repeat clients, taking on new complex and exciting projects, and developing strategic partnerships. On-going project work is focused on supporting the mining sector, brownfield redevelopment, Phase I & II Environmental Site Assessments, UST investigations/closures, groundwater monitoring and telemetry system management, expert witness testimonial, landfill permitting, spill response and mitigation, and stormwater engineering support!
