Raised in Upstate SC, Jonathan developed a strong appreciation for the natural beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains as gleaned from scouts, rock hounding, climbing, mountain biking, and kayaking. While receiving a BA in Geology and studying abroad in Germany with Appalachian State University, Jonathan developed a passion for hydrogeology, sustainable development, and problem solving.
After starting his environmental consulting career in 2006 with HSMM-AECOM in Roanoke, VA, Jonathan attended grad school for a Master's in hydrogeology at Virginia Tech ('08-'10). Upon graduation, Jonathan and his wife served as Peace Corps Volunteers in Morocco. In 2012, Jonathan moved to Portland, OR where he traveled the world as a hydrogeologist for Golder Associates. In 2015, Jonathan moved his young family back to the Carolinas to work as a branch manager for a small firm in Upstate SC. With good mentorship and a strong entrepreneurial spirit, Jonathan began his own consulting firm, Peak Hydrogeologic, PLLC in Tryon, NC in 2016.
Jonathan loves working in private practice as a NC/SC-licensed Professional Geologist, and providing his clients with value that exceeds cost while protecting human health, the environment, and their investment. In addition to dedicating his education and professional career to hydrogeology, Jonathan's obsession with rocks and water spills into his personal life, and he can often be found with his wife (Alex) and two sons (Theis and Karst) outside rock-climbing and kayaking. Jonathan also enjoys supporting the local community as a member of the Tryon Planning and Zoning Board and via volunteer coordination and trail work he does as a Carolina Climber's Coalition Crag Steward for the Town of Tryon's Melrose Mtn. Climbing Park.
Despite the challenges of operating a small business with COVID-19 in 2020, Peak Hydrogeologic experienced our best year yet! Jonathan has continued to grow the business by sustaining several repeat clients, taking on new complex and exciting projects, and developing strategic partnerships. Recent projects include brownfield redevelopment, UST investigations/closures, several Phase I & II Environmental Site Assessments, expert witness testimonial, mining support, telemetry installation/management, landfill permitting, spill response and mitigation, stormwater engineering support, groundwater monitoring, property transaction screens, and much more!
