“We entered into contract for purchase of an old automobile mechanics shop in Hendersonville, NC that had lots of floor/ground stains and chemical storage. Based on historical site use, we dreaded, although halfway expected, to find contamination present at concentrations that would be hazardous to human health and the environment. Following a recommendation from our building inspector, we hired a licensed geologist, Jonathan Gerst with Peak HG, to perform a Phase I Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) in accordance with ASTM E1527-13 and 40 CFR 312. Upon identifying the presence of "Recognized Environmental Conditions”, we also used Jonathan to perform a Phase II ESA (E1903-11), in which he collected numerous subsurface soil samples for laboratory analysis of contaminants. Luckily, the analytical results did not indicate the presence of any regulatory exceedances in subsurface soils from stained areas, and I can rest assured knowing that the reporting process also provided me Superfund (CERCLA) liability protection should any contamination be discovered in the connection with previous site use.”
“Peak HG helped Delray Ventures to maintain innocent landowner status on a property with pre-existing environmental conditions. Peak HG conducted a swift yet thorough site assessment to ensure regulatory compliance and facilitate enrollment in NC DEQ’s State Lead program to cover any future investigative or remediation costs.
Delray Ventures highly recommends Peak HG as an environmental consultant for any Land Owner/Developer seeking the highest level of expertise and professionalism to guide you through challenging site conditions.”
"Jonathan with Peak Hydrogeologic, PLLC performed a detailed site investigation through purchase and post-closing with closure of a 10,000 gallon underground storage tank (UST) used for heating of a large former public services building in Mars Hill, NC. The detailed study allowed us to rule out the possibility of petroleum contamination in soils/groundwater from UST leaks/spills. Peak HG’s thorough investigation and effective coordination with NC DEQ allowed us to appropriately close the UST and obtain a letter of No Further Action from the NCDEQ as needed for refinancing the property. Even after he had completed his work scope, Jonathan maintained contact between me and DEQ to assist with resolution of an incorrectly assigned tank registration and waiver of decades of late payment fees that were neglected by the previous property owner. It was a relief working with someone that held my hand and kept my best interests in mind while also demonstrating a very strong commitment to protection of human health and the environment."
“Peak HG helped Mountain Environmental provide boots on the ground professional expertise during an environmental site investigation related to a real estate transaction with multiple stakeholders. Peak HG helped facilitate a thorough investigation to collect sufficient information to clearly communicate environmental risks associated with the property transfer and ensure regulatory compliance.”
Peak HG provided me with a point of sale underground storage tank (UST) investigation to evaluate the presence of leaks from an old UST on a residential property that we had under contract. By collecting soil data necessary to demonstrate that there was no leak, I was able to move forward with confidence, knowing that the UST did not pose a risk to human health and the environment.
